I would say a minimum of 3 days in South Dakota. One day to see Custer State Park. A half day each to see the Badlands and Mt Rushmore. Then another day to see other things like Bear Country USA or Wall Drug. We spent 4 days in Yellowstone in May and could have easily used 2 more.
