You need a solid 5 days for the Rushmore/ Crazy Horse/ Custer area. There is also Wind Cave NP, Jewel Cave NM, the Mammoth site in Hot Springs, Custer St Park, Hill City, Keystone, Wall Drug, Badlands NP, Minuteman Missile Silo NM... Ect. There is a ton of stuff to see and do. We were there for 5 days and in my mind didn't get to see all of it before we headed to Yellowstone. We were at Yellowstone for 4 days and that did nothing but complete the "figure 8" and hit all the high points. We did zero hiking. Spent the next two days in the Grand Tetons that I wish we could have stayed for 4 days before heading home. I can't comment on Cheyenne as I drove through there late at night on my way home. Our trip was from Dayton, OH so basically the same thing you are looking to do. We just did this trip a month ago so if you need any ideas for the way out let me know.
