Must-see Florida towns

We're making the loop down the Gulf coast to the Keys and up the Atlantic coast of Florida in April and want to visit any "must-visit" towns along the way. Any suggestions?

  • My parents were RVers, and spent one winter in the Spring Hill area, about 20 miles north of Tarpon Springs. I was still working, but I flew down on vacation one winter. We drove down to Tarpon Springs. Not only do they have Greek sponge divers, they have Greek restaurants. I'm not quite sure what I was eating and couldn't pronounce it anyway, but I ate myself into a coma. There was a dock on the lower level and the local boys would dive for coins that customers tossed into the water. No scuba gear. I have no idea how they could hold their breath that long.
  • Don't know your interests but here are a few that have historic, natural and cultural interest.

    East Coast:
    - Old Deland and Stetson University
    - Blue Springs State Park with its manatees http://www.floridastateparks.org/bluespring/
    - St. Augustine, historic town full of sites, worth 2-3 days alone.

    West Coast:
    - Tarpon Springs (Greek Sponge diving community)
    - Sarasota and the Ringling Bros Museum as well as the Amish winter playground in the neighborhood of Pinecraft.
