Do these "rules" apply to anywhere on the ocean in MB or just the public beaches. I think it was Ocean Lakes, that had the rule that there was to be no umbrellas or anything that blocks the view of the lifeguard. anything other than towels was to be behind the front of the lifeguard tower. seems like a common sense rule to me.
It has always been a rule that umbrellas and tents had to be even or behind the lifeguard stand. The new rules banning tents and possibly umbrellas affect the beaches within the city limits of Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach. I believe all of the oceanfront campgrounds are outside the city limits in Horry County. However the county has the same ordinances on the table and will likely pass them in the near future.
I also understand that the umbrella ban is for anything exceeding 7 1/2 ft in diameter. So I guess the lifeguards will have to add a tape measure to the equipment they carry around. ;)
