Myrtle beach during Thanksgiving

Only been down there once in March but am thinking of taking the family there for Thanksgiving this yr. I've seen the average high temps but how is the weather that time of the year? When we went before we stayed at the Myrtle Beach Travel Park and with the indoor pool I think I'll stay there again. We would be down there for a week so other than the actual holiday I would assume the state parks would be open and most other sight seeing things. Thanks
  • Thanks so much. What you all are saying is about what I figured.....kinda a gamble on the weather and it sounds like for the most part MB is open for business. We were there in March one yr and a cold front had just come through so the weather was a bit chilly but should be warmer than in MD that time of yr. Our avg high is about 50 and I think the avg high there is 65 so a bit warmer. I think we'll give it a shot.
  • Also forgot. I wasn't planning on going into the ocean. MBTP has an indoor pool so that was another reason for going to that campground. One question....are the all you can eat seafood places open that time of yr? I can't think of the name but we went to one and it was very nice. Thanks.
  • I know ocean lakes and lakewood have indoor pools. Not sure on Pirateland. The only thing that might be closed down will be some of the seafood restaurants. But there will still be some left open if you are interested in that. Grew up most of my life in Augusta Georgia. I remember wearing shorts on many christmas' and then I remember it being cold on Halloween. It all depends that year. The weather is unpredictable down here.
  • As others have said, the weather can be iffy that time of year. Almost everything will be open. A few restaurants close for the winter, but there will still be plenty open to choose from. We have reservations but will take a look at the long range forecast and re-evaluate a week or so before T'giving (in time to cancel w/o penalty).
  • Oh******guys :) Now I have more campground options to choose from. I didn't know the other 2 had indoor pools. Now I guess it's personal preference but which one is your favorite cg? Thanks

Well like mockybird stated you need to be from upper Canada to enjoy the ocean that time of year. Actually we enjoy it in January & February on the warm days; being from Montreal, we either swim in it or skate on it. :B

The indoor pool at MBTP is heated and it's never crowded, my wife rarely misses a dip when we're down there.

I find the fall and winter in MB to be the most relaxing and least stressful. The beach is never crowded, the good restaurants and pubs are still open as well as 90% of the shopping areas. It's just a laid-back time.

MBTP is our place of choice but any of the big parks are great.

Yep. Pirateland has an indoor pool as well.
However. That time of year. I personally would opt for the North end, MBTP. Because it is near restaurant row, and Barefoot Landing. It is also close to Wilmington NC, IF you were to take a notion to ride up. It is also close to Calabash, and not just the Calabash style wannabe restaurants, But Calabash itself.
And there is Little River, for day crusies
  • Most of all of them have a TG dinner where they supply the meat and you bring side dishes/desserts.
Lots of restaraunts stay open because MB is getting to be a year round place now more than it used to be.

    I would have to concur....
  • You might want to make your reservations NOW!
we have been to OLCG several times and it started filling up Tuesday evening right up to T-day it fills up quickly then. Pull in on the Sunday or Saturday before and you can see the beach from the 4000 section by Wednesday night not happening. Most years this is the weekend that Clemson plays USC and it is a big thing down there. Lots of tailgating and outdoor TV's and plenty of free spirits.
It is an enjoyable week for us.
Weather has been touched. We have camped this week and seen all 4 seasons in the 9 day period. Once it rained alto, then cleared up for t-day and then started again. we have seen below freezing temps and I have had to wear shorts before. JUST depends?? you have to plan for any type of weather and temps. BUT still the best week of vacation every year. This year when we go will be our 13 year of going, we missed one year due to a dear friends father passing right before the trip so we canceled.so we would have had 14 years straight. W
JMHO but we love it. NOW its just mama and me and the kids have school or work so they don't come down until Wednesday.
    Enjoy Randy
