myrtle beach sc to rochester

Hi all,
We are traveling from myrtle Beach to just west of rochester ny. Looking for a nice rv campground to stay at for 5 days in between. Park needs to have cable, wifi and some nice things ro do throughout the area. Traveling with my bride and 13 year old daughter. Thinking Virginia might be a good half way point but open to any and all suggestions.
Thanks,
Ray
  • Ray,

Are you interested in history? Scenery?

Virginia would be a good interim spot. We have taken US 29 from Greensboro NC north to Charlottesville. That is a good route and will get you west to I81 and avoid cities.

There is a KOA in Charlottesville; we have not stayed there. Anywhere along I81 in Virginia would put you close enough to ride some of the Blue Ridge Parkway and/or Skyline Drive. Gettysburg would be a bit further than half way home. If you have not yet been, you might want to stop and see the Corning Glass Museum.

What is your timeframe? We will know more about another possible campground for you to stop at by the middle of next week. Send me a PM if you want more info.

  • We go from Oswego, NY to Myrtle Beach.

Try Yogi Bear's Jelly Stone CG in Hagerstown, MD - allot of civil war battle fields (Gettysburg, Antietam, Harpers Ferry) We have taken day trips to DC from there too. Catch the train at Silver Springs, MD. - - We stay there on the way home

Winchester, VA. Candy Hill CG Closed to the Blue Ridge Parkway. We have stayed here on the way home.

Hershey PA - Hershey High Meadows CG - Hershey Park and close to Gettysburg

    Gettysburg - Round Top CG
  • Hello,

We do this route almost every year. For a while, we divided the trip in half. Fredericksburg, Va. is about half way and there is a KOA not far off the I 95. If you would to prefer to stay around Petersburg, you have two choices there. Pocahontas State Park and South Forty CG.
This past spring we tried Candy Hill, on the west side of Winchester, Va., not far off I - 81. They do have cable and wifi. Shopping is not too far away and it is close to some Civil War sites.
If you don't mind DC traffic, where I 95 and 495 meet, on the north side of the city, try Cherry Hill We've never stayed there, but others say it is nice and also close to the DC points of interest. Personally, I do everything I can to avoid DC and its traffic!

  • X2 for Cherry Hill campground. About 7 1/2 to 8 hours from Myrtle Beach. I stop there on the way home from Myrtle Beach to Long Island every Easter. When you leave Cherry Hill you can pick up I-83 to I-81 to Rochester.
  • Wow you have loads of choices depending on what you want to do.
  • Cherry hill is now a contender along with possibly heading off Mark to Luray Va to check out the caverns and skyline drive.

Thank you all for the help and ideas!
