The PIRATELAND, LAKEWOOD, and OCEAN LAKES are right next to each other and are VERY popular with the kids. Especially PIRATELAND with its camping spots around all the inner small lakes with the Pirate scene. All of these sites are located close to the Airport as well and you can sometimes see the pilots sitting at their controls on final approach to the air port. Especially the Myrtle Beach KOA and SPRINGMAID Beach Resort. It really gets noisy when the jets take off to the SouthEast. Most of the time they are coming in from the Ocean side which is not real bad noise wise but they are low flying which catches your attention big time.
We have family living on the grounds of LAKEWOOD so that is where we always go in the SEP/OCT time frame for mini family reunion with us remaining brother and sisters. It is much better that time of the year with all of the kids in school.
Our love is camping in the woods and we like the MYRTLE BEACH KOA in that area. We really really like the HUNTINGTON BEACH STATE PARK farther down US17. We can camp under the trees in woods and walk the beaches...
