Myrtle Beach, SC, where do you recommend?

Huntington Beach State Park has 130 sites.Some in the open,some very secluded.It has some full hookup sites,the rest are water and electric.
Easy access to the beach.Great Nature center and rangers who conduct nature walks.They have a small store and you're not far from Murrell's Inlet where there are some great restaurants.

Yes Myrtle Beach Travel Park is prolly the quietest of the private CGs,. Has large pullthru sites. The State parks are pretty quiet, but do not have ocean front sites. It's a pretty good hike to the beach.

PirateLand is also quieter than OL as they do have tighter security, and larger oceanfront sites.

The problem is. It is late. So you need to be on the phone NOW.

We prefer Ocean Lakes. Until last weekend, we have only been in Ocean Lakes and Lakewood. We drove through Lakewood again as it's been a few years, Pirateland, and Myrtle Beach State Park. We've been in Myrtle Beach Travel Park as well as Cypress, Apache, Huntington Beach State Park. Personally, we would rank them in this order:

1) Ocean Lakes
2) Myrtle Beach State Park
3) Huntington Beach State Park
4) Pirateland
5) Lakewood
6) Cypress
7) Myrtle Beach Travel Park (mainly due to it's location in North MB)
8) Apache

All with exception of Ocean Lakes, are primarily dirt. Pirateland has a few paved pads. Lakewood has hard packed crush and run with a paver patio. If I am going to stay in a campground and want to stay in the dirt and not enjoy the golf carts and other amenities, then I would pick one of the state parks for the solitude and value (lower cost).

I videoed the drive through Myrtle Beach State Park, Lakewood, Pirateland and Ocean Lakes last weekend. PM me know if you want to see them. Still working on 3 of the 4 videos. Myrtle Beach State Parks is done.

Have stayed at most campgrounds at MB for 25 plus years. Our number one choice is Pirate Land regardless of the season. June is a busy time in all campgrounds. Never a major concern anywhere for us.

Exactly....and if you plan on going to the beach in June, then you can expect a crowd.

If you want less of a crowd, with only about 10% of the campground filled, no golf carts zooming around and the chance to get a view like the one from your front door like we had below. Then you gotta go in January....lol

For us it's Myrtle Beach Travel Park. It has all the amenities, it's close to shopping and restaurant row and a lot of things to do.

I think it depends on what you are looking for...

If you have kids, you should consider Lakewood. In addition to all of the features accessible at most Myrtle Beach campgrounds. The have their own water park that just opened in the Fall of 2013. Very nice addition. We always stay oceanfront so we have a paver site with a firepit. But those get booked up fast. There are some good pictures of it on their website/facebook page. Some other campgrounds boast a lazy river and pools, but no one in MB can match their water park.

We've stayed at most and continue to go to Lakewood for the size of the sites and amenities. Their golf cart policy isn't as relaxed as Ocean Lakes, but the campground is very nice.

Ocean lakes has pull through sites, but the roads are very narrow if you have a big unit, so getting in and out of sites is a tight squeeze. And we like the end spots. I've avoided a few close calls from guys who cannot judge the tail swing of their camper (which usually ended in me yelling "STOP" and spilling my beer). My uncle had his new 2014 camper significantly damaged at Ocean Lakes by a similar inexperienced driver last year. Ocean Lakes is probably the most crowded one in my opinion (but we still go there around Easter and in the fall when it is less busy-so I cant say I hate it), but there is a lot of full time residents/houses on the property so golf carts zoom around 12 months a year.

They all have their perks and disadvantages. But don't be fooled, if you are going to the beach in the summer, expect crowds.

Thanks much folks; plenty to consider. Bottom line, I'm sure we'll enjoy any one of the parks. We are 60 years old, our children are grown but still enjoy seeing the kids, activities and the rest. Can also enjoy a more peaceful CG, especially for our first trip out.
The biggest attraction for us is the beach and salt air.
We just ordered a new trailer, its been years since we owned one so I guess you could call us newbies.

Good decision to cancel Ocean Lakes. Huntington Beach State Park is our favorite.

I prefer State Parks and enjoyed Myrtle Beach State Park. Nice quiet beach and pier/boardwalk. Quiet campground, but I was there in late March.
