The beach is the only reason to go to Myrtle.

To the Op. you also may want to look up some in NC. At South Port, Holden,or Ocean Isle. Much quieter places to be.

Myrtle Beach is very quickly becoming a cess pool.

We've had a family place for a while now in Murrell's Inlet. I can't say enough good things about it except that more people are starting to figure that out! We actually have Huntington booked the end of this month. Really nice State Park, really hard to get into and priced rather high IMO. Don't think I myself could put up with all the traffic in Myrtle Beach. Summertime is a nightmare. I would look around Little River or Calabash.

Huntington Beach State Park is the nicest place to stay unless you are wanting to look at North Myrtle Beach. They do have some full hookup sights though expensive after March 1 @ $50/night unless you qualify for a 50% senior discount. As far as retiring there, I have no idea why someone would want to retire where traffic is a nightmare most of the year. But if you are that crazy, Murrels Inlet is the place to be as at least down there you are out of most of the traffic.

Would be happy to answer any questions, if you could be a little more specific. What are your priorities? What do you like to do? Want to be on the water, or is a little inland OK? So much building going on - sure you can find what you want. How much house? Price range? What kind of home (1 or 2 story, etc). Can recommend a great realtor (not related to us!). Feel free to PM if you would like to 'chat'. Lived in the area for 13 years as a retired couple. As far as camping is concerned, May is the beginning of the 'high season'. If you are thinking of the southern area (Surfside Beach - Pawleys Island) would recommend Huntington Beach State Park. Might have trouble finding a full hook up site (only about 1/3 are sewered).
Myrtle Beach State Park has more sites, but some are smaller and many are closer together. Again, limited number are full hook ups. We like the Myrtle Beach KOA - right in MB, about 1/2 mile from ocean. Central location.
The "big 3" ocean front campgrounds, Ocean Lakes, Lakewood and Pirateland, all have tight sites and for our use are pricey.
Myrtle Beach Travel Park, on the northern end of the area, is, IMHO, the best privately owned cg in the area.
