I tent camped in both as a child. MB state park is 5 miles south of the action (and crowds) in the center of the city, but its also at the end of the runway at Myrtle Beach Airport. Huntington Beach SP is another 15 miles south and directly across US 17 from Brookgreen Gardens. As a child, I expected that to be a snooze, but really enjoyed it. The statuary more than the plant material, but even much of that was trimmed into various shapes. The beach isn't as wide as the north end, but it isn't nearly as crowded. The whole area south of MB is just more laid back and a little more "old south", as in slower.
