We like to limit beverages to cold water and watered down iced tea during long car drives (and anywhere else we can;)); works through the system faster than sugary drinks but IMHO is better for the body overall. I get about 1.5 hours before pull over time on average w/ the kiddos and then if possible I let them run around/stretch their legs for 20-30 minutes and we are off again. For long trips (at least 4 hours or more)I set aside a full hour to eat and get out of the sitting position of car inertia as long as logistics don't get in the way.
