N East Texas -Ark. destinations help?

We stayed at Shady Pines in Texarkana. RV Parts store right next door. Be sure to see the Largest Magnolia Tree in Arkansas.

On our way to Branson, we also stayed at Withrow Springs SP near Huntsville AR. Great place to disconnect - no cable, WiFi or Verizon cell service.

One of the nicest commercial or casino parks I've stayed at was Winstar Casino, Thackerville, OK. On I-35 north of Dallas.
Get a players card (free) and first night is free!
I didn't go in the casino, but it looked nice.

Shady Pines is a very good commercial park.
The COE parks on Wright Patman Lake will be my next stop up there though. One of them is right off HWY 59.

If you wait until very late October, you'll be on your trip during prime fall color season. Since Oklahoma is between Missouri and Texas, I'm going to suggest Beavers Bend, near Broken Bow, and Cedar Lake, near Heavener and the Talimena Scenic Drive. Both of these are very popular at that time of year, so you might want to make reservations. I also like the already mentioned Petit Jean and Lake Fort Smith parks in Arkansas.

Atlanta State Park in Atlanta Texas which is located on Lake Wright Pattman is a real underused jewel of a park. There is a number of full hookup sites there and several COE parks near which are really nice too.

padredw mentioned the COE parks at Lake WrightPatman south of Texarkana. They are great! We really enjoyed them 3 years ago and would go back in a heartbeat.

Might look at Cedar Lake , a NFS recreational Area in the Kiamica mountians.

Our two favorites are Beavers Bend S.P. in SE Oklahoma and Caddo Lake S.P. in NE Texas (on the LA border).

North of Ft Smith Arkansas is a new state park called Lake Fort Smith State Park. Only thing is that it's 15 miles north of town. The approach is hilly but doable if you take it slow. We loved it!! Full hookup some pull thrus. Some satellite friendly.

I think my first recommendation would be Tyler State Park.

Just a matter of local language, but anything "north" of Dallas we would call 'North Texas,' so in our speak all of NorthEast Texas would be east of Dallas.

There are several fine campgrounds on Lake 'o the Pines, not far from where I live; two near the dam are Brushy Creek and Buckskin. While Tyler State Park has full hook-ups the COE parks would have water, 50 am electric, and a dump station.

Daingerfield State Park would be a bit closer to the Arkansas border and is about 20 miles from our home. Since it is so close, I don't know about the hook-ups.

As for commercial parks there is Shady Pines near Texarkana. We bought our present trailer from Shady Pines RV and the park next door looks really good. Just depends on whether you prefer state parks (as we do) or the commercial variety.

There are also several COE parks on Wright Patman Lake near Texarkana, but I do not have any personal experience of staying at any of them.

Another state park is Bob Sandlin near Mt. Pleasant and Pittsburg.

All of these state parks I have mentioned are on lakes and in pine and hardwood forests. As you go nearer to Dallas you will lose the pine trees and most of the others.

Yes, it is hot and humid. We depend on air conditioners and we have two units in our fifth-wheel. Spring is the ideal time to visit East Texas and later in the Autumn.

I concur with the recommendation of Petit Jean in Arkansas. I would also mention Maumelle COE near Little Rock. There are many good campgrounds in the Hot Springs area.
