Since you mentioned State Parks, you might find the website at U.S. Campgrounds helpful in locating government (Fed/C.O.E./State/City & County) campgrounds. As an aside, there are numerous C.O.E. and other public parks along the Savannah River from the SC/GA foothills down to Augusta that offer a natural ambiance, good fishing, and hiking trails. You'll find some gems like Neuseway Park in Kinston, NC. Good luck and travel safe.
