Need help want to go North for the 4th maybe Maine

Looking to get away with kids and wife the week of the 4th 2016. Thinking about Maine any thoughts on this trip would be greatly appreciated.... Only have a week traveling from NC where to go for gre...

That is close to 1000 miles for a week. What about Boston area for a historical fourth? Cape cod? Cape Ann?
