Not boondocking, but Angel Lake NFS CG about 10 or so miles south of Wells is up in the mountains and gorgeous.
Right off I-70 at the Deeth/Starr Valley exit (333), on the north side of the highway is a large parking area where one could overnight. Further on at the Beverly Hills exit (348) there's a turnaround about 1/4 mile from the highway where one could park. Both of these would definitely have some traffic noise.
The problem with finding spots north of Wells is that much of the land was railroad land grants and thus a checkerboard of private and BLM land for 20 or more miles north of Wells.
