New England!

Wake up you hibernators! Spring is here and I suspect that most of the snow in VT and NH will be melted by mid-July!

We will be fulltiming in New England this summer with a focus on southern CT and eastern MA, and we need some recommendations for good parks.

Must have: full hookup, access for 40' 5th wheel.

Nice to have: 55+, good wi-fi, nearby bike trails, convenient to interstate.

Any recommendations appreciated. Thanks!
  • Mystic KOA is nice with full hook up. It is close to rt 95 and close to Mystic and the casinos. No bike trails though. Many of the campgrounds on Cape Cod with full hookups are close to bike trail but none with direct access. One we like is Sweetwater in Brewster.

You will have to more specific as to the towns for "southern Ct" as campgrounds are few and far between ...but narrow it down for me...Chuck
  • As you are probably starting to see by the responses -
IMHO - Top choices from north to south...
    Danforth Bay in NH
    Boston Minuteman in upper Ma.
    Normandy Farms in mid Ma.
Bayview @ top of cape in S.E.Ma.
Lots of other decent little places, but these always seem to be the most popular.
    Get your reseravations in early!

A good site for info/reviews of new england campgrounds: That's Camping
  • There are no 55+ parks that I'm aware of in Eastern MASS. As some others have commented, Normandy Farms is about as nice as they come in this area. Fantastic, but be sure to reserve ahead as the weekends are jammin' all summer long. Great launching point to most anywhere in MASS as well.
  • Boston Minuteman in Littleton is nice, it was a KOA years ago but no longer. As others said, Normandy Farms in Foxboro and Bayview on the Cape is great. North of Boston you need to go to Gloucester or Salisbury and there isn't much that is good. Salisbury State Campground is liked but no sewer and Beach Rose is newer but small. Good luck.
  • Check out The Bluffs rv resort in New Hampshire. 55 plus. Next door is Danforth Bay camping & RV resort. Same owners. www.nhrvresort.com
  • Seaport RV Resort and Campground

We spent a week here last summer over the 4th of July. Good access to Mystic attractions as well Groton and New London. They were remodeling as they are now part of Sun RV Resorts. We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful.

They did not have full hook ups but a honey wagon would visit at no cost when you needed tanks pumped. I was told due to the rocky terrain it was very costly to run sewer lines in the park.
  • No idea about 55+ - I think that's more of a southern/west coast thing. However, Normandy Farms was great (be sure to reserve early and ask for a pull-through site; their regular big-rig pull-throughs were shady and really nice, but the "Safari" sites were cheek-to-jowl in the sun. Rhe CG was otherwise very nice & well-located. Great for visiting Plimoth Plantation, if you've a mind to.

The Mystic (CT) KOA will have some good-sized sites but isn't as attractive a CG as Normandy Farms, by far.
  • Northern or southern MA? Peters Pond Park in Sandwich, MA (Cape) is under new management. Can't remember the name of the company who owned them but it was bad news for a while. Haven't stayed there under the new management but did converse with the owner about a number of things and he seemed like a great guy and very interested in turning the park back into the great campground it used to be. There are lots of cg's on the Cape, Normandy Farms in Foxboro gets great reviews, but there isn't a whole lot on the north shore. The closest thing in between would probably be the KOA in Littleton. None are 55+ tho-I think the closest 55+ is The Bluffs but that's up in Freedom, NH. The majority of the cgs here will have lots of kids.
