New Mexico -southern part

We love to visit Oliver Lee State Park outside Alamogordo when it's NOT hot. You can reserve sites with electricity and water (there's only a few). Nice big sites with a beautiful view and hiking trail into Dog Canyon.

We are fond of Bottomless Lake State Park outside of Roswell. There are a lot of flies in the middle of summer but they should not be now, that was the only time we had a issue. They have installed free wifi, of course you get what you pay for and it gets slow if there is a lot of people in the park. Last time there, there was pretty good cellular service.

We stayed at a state park near Alamagordo a couple years ago that was nice, can't imagine they would close in the winter since they don't get much snow at that level (at least when we lived there). Only a 20-30 minutes to White Sands.

If you like State Parks, New Mexico has some nice ones. Try City of Rocks as mentioned, or Rockhound State Park near Deming. Bottomless Lakes is just outside of Roswell. Brantley Lakes is about 35 miles North of Carlsbad. You can see a complete List and Location at this website.

You will need to check on the Gila Cliff Dwellings and Valley of Fires area as they were closed due to the government shutdown as of last week. Also the Catwalk Recreation area near Silver City has been closed due to the severe flood damage caused by the storms in September.

We stayed at BLM park in Carrizozo, NM. Valley of Fires Recreation Area. A lot of nice places to visit from there. Hope that BLM parks open back up soon.

x2 on City of Rocks State Park near Silver City and if the gov is open, Gila Cliff Dwellings Nat's Monument is neat - take Hwy 35 to get there and there are a couple nice national forest campgrounds, too.

Try City of Rocks SP about 24 miles north of Deming(*Google it). An awesome campground with a variety of amenities from full hook ups to a site like this:



Drop dead gorgeous to downright spooky as the sunset casts its shadows. Some of the most unusual rock formations on earth. Can't wait to get back. :C

There is a nice RV park in the city of Roswell that have stayed at several times. Cannot remember the name but it is on the south end of the city. For visiting white Sands, Ruidoso, and Cloud croft ,stay in Alamogordo. Evergreen RV park and White Sands RV park both in Alamogordo are good Boot Hill RV park between Alamogordo and Tularosa are both good.
