- DavidandDayleExplorerWe've been taking the cats back and forth for about 15 years. Canada once asked for the rabies certificate. Our new vet gave a 3-year shot.
US customs got all fussed up about the cat food a couple of times. Once because we had transferred it to plastic containers. Next time they had to read the ingredients to the agriculture (or something) expert.
And you might consider keeping your own food in the original containers as well. - naysmitjExplorerThanks for all the information, we appreciate the help.
Cheers - joebedfordNomad IIAnd you have to do this too:
- ImpkittiExplorerGet your vet health certification and shot records.
My vet prints the health cert and vaccination record on one page for each animal. We hand over the copy with our passports when we cross. Sometimes they look at the record and match it to the critter, sometimes not. - BarbaraOKExplorerI would advise that you talk to your vet and indicate where you are going and have them do a 'health summary' for you, along with the Rabies Certificate. Have them list the reasons why other vaccinations are not necessary. While not all parks will ask for them, there are lots that will - most often because of insurance requirements. I know that our park requires them and gives those from different areas a week to get their pets vaccinated if they arrive with just Rabies certifications and no other vaccinations listed. Our vet listed on our cat's health certificate (before she passed away) that certain vaccinations were no longer required because of her age.
Barb - TripalotExplorerNew York State Parks take a photocopy of rabies cert. when you register. (at least they used to). We have not had a cat for 3 years now so don't know if the rules have changed.
- n7bsnExplorerWe cross frequently, with our two cats and two dogs.
*Have the shot records and a "good health" certificate from your vet.
*Have the food in the original container (at least some), it's due to food transmitted diseases and the US can be picky.
*Never let the cat "roam" at a park, you will loose it. Something will scare it and it will run and not know the way "home" - Artum_SnowbirdExplorerBe vigilant about having the original containers for any cat food you have. They seem to like to confiscate any without the contents listed. Something about sheep meat might be in it.
Never been asked for a certificate yet.. but we have it ready. - _en_Plain_Air_ExplorerWe went to Alaska this past summer, crossing in and out of Canada several times. We were asked (each time) to produce a current certificate of rabies vaccination.
- joebedfordNomad IIYou have to have current vaccinations.
Despite what other have said, we've stayed in many parks, sometimes in no "pet" areas with our three cats. Generally speaking, whenever anyone says "pet" they mean "dog". No doubt exceptions to our experience occur.
Our cats are indoor only cats, though sometimes they sit outside under 100% supervision.
