And your location is WHERE? Is it top secret? - NaioExplorer IIOh, good lord! Wilderness does not mean no humans can go there. I've never been there, but considering the photos I've seen of it and all the comments I've seen about it ... I think I agree 200%.
It's an example of how things always go downhill when adults that should be responsible ... aren't. Hence, more and more external control eventually becomes necessary in order to eliminate the negatives that come from irresponsible behavior ... and along with this comes loss of freedom for all of us.
What loss of freedom means in the context of this discussion thread is that us retired folks have less and less places where we can drycamp for a few days or weeks in a free or inexpensive, relatively beautiful (as compared to urban areas), clean, and secure environment. Hence, retirement becomes more and more costly as we have to pay more and more for privately owned places that attempt to provide a relatively beautiful, clean, and secure camping environment. :( - CKNSLSExplorerSlab City should be closed. There may actually be less access. The description of wilderness means no access. No human contact. From the rough example that they give of Goblin Valley SP it will probably remove all the boondocking areas just outside the park. Look at the map colors and then look at where freecampsites.net shows camping and I bet it's gone when they resize the park.
You may also want to look into "The Re wilding" of America and "Agenda 21". There is nothing wrong with protecting and cleaning up our environment but you may find that there is more going on here than just that. The re wilding issue is based on creating large areas of zero human contact. In order to support the large carnivores the "areas" must have "connectivity" so they are huge. In the end you will most likely see less and less areas to use. Some believe that the only natural place for humans is in cities. They use the words positive social contact, interaction and support. They believe being spread out and on your own is very destructive to the environment.
There are many advocates of wanting to see the world population decreased by about 6 billion people but they dont seem to be willing to step forward and go first. No, none of this will happen quickly so big things or controversial things are often accomplished through incrementalism.

That link to the "Agenda" is down right scary!!
It keeps saying words like "Collective", and "New World Order", those kinds of communistic/socialistic experiments have in the past led to Orwellian dictates, and the lack of human spirit, or initiative for success.
It's such a breath of fresh air to see posts like these. I've known about this campaign for quite some time now and whenever I bring it up most people just go to sleep.
This "Agenda 21" and now "Agenda 2030" is a United Nations campaign that came out of the 1992 "Earth Summit" in Rio De Janario. It was George H W Bush that signed us onto this.
The 'Wildlands Project Map' is for real and you should all take a closer look at it because that's what is in store for us. The campaign is underway as we write and the process is 'incrementalism' and rjxj is right on target.
For this fact and this fact alone I'm willing to have the states take control of our public lands, it's gone for sure under the UN program so why not risk a little and let the States have a crack at it.
Look at Slab City, it's State Land not Federal Land. If the Feds owned it I'm sure it would have been closed a long time ago. - CKNSLSExplorerThose of us that live in Utah don't necessarily want the price tag of maintenance that goes along with the "initiative" of acquiring lands.
It's very fashionable in Utah to talk about the Federal government's (supposedly) misuse of public lands. - pnicholsExplorer II

rjxj ... your post above is right on the money! (IMHO)
Why is it that the 800 lb. gorilla in the room that no one acknowledges (or has given up on acknowledging) is ... the world's population must begin to be controlled. Just about everywhere I look today in the world there are too many folks there, relatively speaking. It seems to be a given in the human species that: "It's OK to procreate as much as one wants ... mankind can merely use extraordinary (technology and otherwise) means to restrict them once they're born." I disagree that it's OK to procreate as much as one wants. I guesstimate that the current world population is at least twice too large right now ... everywhere.
By the way #1 .... We did our part by stopping at two kids of our own. One of them stopped at two kids of their own, and the other one wants no kids of their own. (Note: Adopting/fostering is, however, fantastic.)
By the way #2 .... No publicly owned land should be prohibited to all access, except for temporarily in very special areas for restoration purposes. At a very minimum - maybe on a lottery basis in certain areas - hiking and backpacking should always be allowed on all public lands. This Ambulatory Access Only should be ultra-restricted and always subject to change directly or indirectly through a voting process. Even then ... with special permits and arrangements, folks with ambulatory disabilities should be able to access many of these same areas IN APPROPRIATE TRANSPORTATION VEHICLES being driven and guided by licensed professionals. I work as a backcountry volunteer in a good sized State Park. The backcountry volunteers can use specially permitted vehicles to perform their duties out there in the middle of nowhere, but the public must only hike or bike there. Within this State Park is a designated Wilderness Area ... where no vehicles (even state vehicles) are allowed. However within this Wilderness Area, backpacking and hiking are still allowed. This is as it should be all over the U.S. on public lands .... IMHO.
Regarding "camping only" recreational vehicles on public lands, they should be allowed all over the place in the U.S. in designated public land areas ... again ultimately subject to the voting process. Trashing of any of these allowed areas by camping only recreational vehicles should have severe consequences whenever culprits can be caught. However, ATV and UTV and motorcycle use should be heavily restricted all over the U.S. on public lands ... with most of the allowed areas for these way smaller than, and remote from, the areas where camping only recreational vehicles are allowed.
Ultimately, population control on a world scale is now the name of the game. ;) - slickrock_steveExplorerRJXJ;

I tried zooming in on the maps, but see nothing more than a giant relief map with roads overlaid.
