New York State Parks

I could not find much information on their website. Do you know anything about non resident camping in NY State Parks. I guess each park is different in what they offer. I am wanting to find out what kind of hookups they have and what size trailers they take. Please share your experiences if you have camped there.

Thanks.

  • I'm planning on going to Lake George RV Resort in July. No state park but worth checking if you like that kind of thing.
  • Wellsley Island SP has full hookup sites as well. You can search State parks by the amenities you want at reserveamerica.com as well as by location on the map.

Cedar Point State Park (1000 Islands) has full hook ups.
  • LIke others have said, each NYS campground is different. Most NYS campground reservations are made through Reserveamerica.com. Many offer electric at 20 or 30 amps, but it is hit or miss which ones.

I do know Wildwood State Park on Long Island does have full hookups, electric, water & sewer. It's a nice park right on the Long Island Sound, but I live on Long Island and do not want to camp on Long Island. We prefer mountains, rocks & fresh water over the sand & saltwater on Long Island, so we head up north to the Catskills & Adirondacks for our camping trips.
  • Dutch gave you great information. Each campground is different, but I do not know of any that have full hook ups. Look up nysparks.com and there is a map and each park has its description.
  • The NY State Park campgrounds operated by the Dept. of Environmental Conservation (DEC) offer dry camping only, with no hooks ups. The DEC campgrounds are located in the Adirondack and Catskill Mountain areas. The campgrounds operated by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) throughout the rest of the state, typically have electric only sites varying from 20 amp only up to 20/30/50 amp capacities, with water and dump stations readily available. A few OPRHP campgrounds have full hookup sites available.

One of our favorite NY OPRHP electric only campgrounds is Robert Moses State Park near Massena, NY on the Canadian border. Some sites there offer a fantastic view of the St Lawrence Seaway, where you can watch ocean going ships entering and leaving the nearby Eisenhower Lock. Another favorite is Four Mile Creek State Park on the shore of Lake Ontario near Niagara Falls, another electric only campground. And again, some sites have a beautiful view of the lake, with the city of Toronto skyline visible on the far shore.
