I lived there for the first 35 years of my life. I was there at its peak and now it is in a very deep valley. All of the industries are gone. The downtown is gone. I ran when I had the chance. All that remains is the elderly, those that could not escape, and the criminals that have overrun large sections of the city.
The last census placed the only about 700 over the point where you lose you status as a city (pop. 50,000). The leadership is inept at best, and corrupt at worst. They gave away the convention center to the Indians so that they could have a casino. Any revenue the city gets from the deal they p away. Very sad.
It's always sad to see. Cities all over the country just keep getting ground into dirt. Reasons are many. It's usually involves a politician though. D or R makes no difference. It's like big time wrestling. They're all from same team.
