niagara falls

Going to travel to Niagara Falls NY arriving fri oct 3 and staying 2 nights. Not going into canada. Nothing against your fine country just dont have a passport. Last time on canadian side was 13 years prior during honeymoon. Same week ;) Wish wouldve gotten it since we do enjoy the canadian side. anyways looking for suggestions on where to camp, where to park, and what to do in addition to the state park. I see where pets arent allowed on the sidewalks at state park. Do you folks leave pets inside while walking around?
  • We liked staying at the KOA in Medina (Wildwood Lake) when visiting the US side of the Falls.
  • We stayed at 4-mile SP over Labor Day (4 days). Beautiful park with spacious sites. We had electric and a water spigot across the road.

Old Fort Niagara is well worth a stop.
  • Four Mile Creek state park is on Lake Ontario, about 15-20 minutes north of the Falls, big campground. Some sites have electric. There are water hookup locations around the park and a dump station. Nearby is Ft. Niagara (no camping), with interesting museum and fort to tour.

If you stay there, show your hang tag to the Niagara Falls State Park parking lot attendant for free parking (versus $10 a day.) If you arrive early (by 9 am in the summer and maybe weekends off season), there are some shady parking places along the sidewalk in Lot #1.
  • I see where there is a carbon foot print calculator on the state park website. Not sure I want to visit that site.
