Mt. Rushmore. We stayed at Custer's Gulch (commercial) campground for a week which allowed us good access to Custer State Park, Needles Highway, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, etc. Not particularly inexpensive, but not over priced in the area.

West Yellowstone. We drove down into Idaho about 20 miles to Island Park and the Red Rock RV Park. It is less expensive and is a beautiful area in its own right. The drive into Yellowstone was never unpleasant for us; it was part of the pleasure. If you stay there go down to the area around Johnny Mack's cabin in the late afternoon. There was also a youth rodeo about a half mile down the road which included a chuck wagon dinner. Wonderful.

We stayed at Memaloose State Park near The Dalles, Oregon and made a drive out toward Mt. Hood. That was not our objective on this particular trip but it was a good overnight right on the Columbia River.

Oregon coast: we stayed at South Beach State Park. A very large park, but well spaced. We had reservations for these two Oregon State Parks months in advance of our trip.

Last year we went to
Mount Hood and stayed at Toll Bridge county park . We loved it The park is located in Parkdale

I don't know what you consider inexpensive but the going rate at most campgrounds in the MT Rushmore/Black Hills area is $35 and up per night. There are several national forest campgrounds near West Yellowstone that are under $20 per night. Check on-line at Hebgen Basin Campgrounds.

During the summer Oregon State Parks really need reservations, especially on the coast. Mt Hood area. MtHood RV Village in Welches is the closest ful hookup park to the mountain.
Can I make some suggestions?
Coming into Oregon on I84 or thru WA on I90? If the latter, dont miss the Columbia River gorge east of Portland. You could park at Troutdale. If your coming in on I84, at Ontario take the highway west toward Bend, spend a few days in the high desert region of central Oregon. So much to see and do. Work your way north on 97. Columbia river, I5 north out of Portland, follow the signs at Longview,WA back across the river to US30 to Astoria to start your journey.
How much time are you alloting here? Could spend a month and not see it all.

Most Oregon State Parks (http://oregonstateparks.org/) are inexpensive. The ones on the Oregon coast are, for the most part, beautiful!

As far as Mt. Rushmore & Yellowstone - inexpensive is not something very common. At least I haven't found it that way.

For Oregon Coast your best and least expensive are any of the first rate Oregon State Parks.
Take your pick, they are all in prime locations and all excellent. But, if you are going in the summer, make reservations yesterday! They are very popular.
