Northern Mich..Anyone camped at "The Bluffs' or Onaway Park

Going up to Northern Michigan this upcoming July to visit friends who have a cabin on Black Lake in Cheboygan Michigan.
Want to camp as close to there cabin as possible for convenience.
Anyone ever stayed at "The Bluffs", its a restaurant and they have a small campground? Also, has anyone stayed at Onaway State Park? The Bluffs are only 2 mins away, but cant find reviews on the place anywhere!
Thanks in advance!!!!

drsteve- have you ever stayed or checked out the bluffs? decent place? water and electric hookup at bluffs?

edbehnke- thanks for the recommendation on the UAW, looks real nice. 20 mins away from my friends cabin, but heck it looks that it may be worth that trip. Appears to have indoor pool
    thanks!!

I stayed at the Bluffs once for a weekend, 30 years ago. The occasion was an organized trail ride--the Bluffs is near the trailhead for an excellent ORV riding area that includes one of the most challenging single track motorcycle trails in Michigan. They have 38 campsites, half electric, half rustic. We stayed in a large overflow area near the campground. The restaurant had good food then, and my understanding is that it's even better now. The campground is clean, but bare bones.

The UAW campground is more resort like. Excellent golf course on site, pool, full hookups, tidy grounds, etc.

  • I've camped at Onaway once, on a lakefront site. Smaller sites, but right on the shore of the lake. The campground itself is mostly on a hillside. It's an older park, lots of trees, not so good for big rigs, IIRC. It's a nice park.

The Bluffs is also nice. Good restaurant, excellent burger, shady sites. Probably a bit roomier than Onaway.
  • For the State Park ... Trip Advisor has 44 reviews https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g42550-d1856924-Reviews-or10-Onaway_State_Park-Onaway_Michigan.html

I have not stayed. From the sat photo it looks very small

Now's the time to book a site for July. Michigan's parks are pretty much 100% reservation May through end of September, especially for premium sites such as those on water or pull-throughs.

No thoughts on the private campground. Website claims best burgers?
