Ok to run a generator at night if no one is around?

In the SoCal desert (Glamis, Ocotillo Wells, Gordon's Well, etc) thousands of people gather each weekend to run their onboard generators and have campfires and play with gasoline engine powered sand toys. Never heard of ANYONE suffering from CO poisoning. Camped in many "wagon circles" with upwards of 30 rigs, with a fire in the middle, with no ill effects.

I say run it.
