Olympic Peninsula Dispersed Camping areas?

Boondocking on the OlyPen, just got a new (to me) rig, and the goal is to get out as many weekends as possible. We hadn't really planned on getting this, so have no reservations anywhere. Everyplace I check for availability is booked. Looking for decent places, doesn't have to be on the lake, river, or sea, just want some quiet. Trying to avoid commercial parks for this trip.
  • Google Donkey Creek. It is close to Humptulips, has free camping along the river, is quiet and one of our favorite spots.

Just don't tell anybody about it!!!
  • We had a heck of a time finding boondocking on the OP and finally gave up and stayed in Hoh Valley CG (which was great, by the way). There was very little land that was open for boondocking, and whatever we found was very muddy -- big risk of getting stuck.

If you need hookups, check out Hard Rain Cafe. We stayed there a few years ago and really liked it.

Here is a link to our post on our most recent OP trip:

Prof Dan gave a great review of the "Hard Rain Cafe", and ever since then I've wanted to try it. A funky burger joint with some hookup spaces, south of Forks. Since it's near Kalaloch's South Beach CG I would try there first and see if I won the lottery.

Don't forget to see if Clallum County's Salt Creek park has any spaces.

Salt Creek all filled up on the dates we can get out.

Will be looking up Hard Rain.
  • Seriously, if you can get into the Hoh River campground, it is really good -- the spaces are large, and there are many sites right on the river -- this was taken early in the morning in late September of 2014:

    Nice!!!
  • Got reservations at the Hard Rain this am!!! Props to my lady for tracking them down while I am at work!!!

Will be checking out all the spots listed earlier, thanks all!
  • The food at the Hard Rain Cafe was fantastic when we went there, but it is has been several years -- not sure if they have the same chef. Check it out and let us know, if you get the chance.
