Being a west coaster, I have not been to this part of the country in my RV. I am new to Thousand Trails. I am planning a visit and need to resolve where to stay when we go there. TTrails has the low cost factor in it's favor, downside is drive to WDW. Fort Wilderness - HIGH cost but proximity and their transportation...............also no daily parking fee. FYI - 2 retired 65+s in the RV. (How did 65 years happen????)Can anyone answer a few questions:How long is the 9 mile commute to Disney World with traffic from TTrails? Does Wilderness accommodate easily a 36 footer in most areas or do I need one of the higher cost Premium/? sites if we go there?Any thoughts on these two parks would be greatly appreciated! Give me your vote on which is best for us. Money does not have to be the deciding factor but could be a tie - breaker. LOL THANKS

You can't beat the experience at Fort Wilderness. It is costly, but it is worth the experience at least once. Parking at Disney parks is $15 for a car, so make sure you figure that into your cost. It may be a 9 mile trip from TT to WDW, but most likely it will take longer.There are some loops that are a little tigher than others, but most of the full hook-up, preferred and premium sites will accommodate your Motorhome. The premium sites have more pavement and less sand, nicer picnic tables and better grills. My son loves to play in the dirt, so the premium sites are better for us since there is less dirt for him to play in :)Being your first time in the area, you should experience Fort Wilderness.-Michael

We have never been to the Thousand Trails Campground near Disney World, but we have been to Fort Wilderness Campground. It was outstanding, cannot say enough good things about it.

When you take everything into consideration, I don't think there is any campground in the Orlando area better than FW. If you stay else where, add up the cost of your fuel and parking and I'll bet the amount of $$ is the difference in the campsite price. The fact that you can use Disney transportation to get everywhere and you have the convienance of returning to your RV in the middle of the day for a break from the parks it's just priceless. There is not a better experience than FW for a trip to Disney World, we never stay at the other resorts anymore, it's FW or nothing.

Thank you all for your great input. I have always wanted to stay at FW and sounds like this is the less stressful and full experience place to be.

Hoping to visit that area in Fall 2014 and will be making those reservations EARLY!!! I will be sure to say hi to Mickey for all of you. :)

We are Thousand Trails members and store our MH at the preserve. We also live less than a mile from the preserve. We use the preserve several times a year and love it.

Depending on the time of year you are visiting, I've seen it take anywhere from 20 minutes to over an hour to get to the World from this location.

If I was coming to Florida with the intent of doing Disney exclusively, I would stay at FW and use the world transportaion system. Also, the Worlds have special times for people staying on site ... this is a nice feature as the crowds are unreal at times.

As close as we live to Disney, when going for more than a day, we have opted to stay at the world vs driving back and forth and battling the traffic. There is no substitute for the FW/Disney World experience.

We stay at the TT all the time. The drive to Disney takes about 20 minutes. The park is nice with two pools, a small lake and lots of RV sites. All easy in and out. We take our bikes over to Fort Wilderness and ride around. While the campground is OK, in my opinion is WAY overpriced.

FW without question. I belonged to TT for many years and they're OK but doing the Disney thing almost requires at least one stay in FW.

Another vote for Fort Wilderness, just spent 18 days there in Aug with grandsons (14&16). Said on the way home that they want to go back to FW, but don't bother with the Disney tickets, just the Fort.

Ft Wilderness is the best. They have no problem handling big rigs. We took our grandkids and stayed a week. Whats really great, it's easy to get around to the DW parks. You will love it.
