Orlando - Lake Magic or Sherwood Forest in the summer

I'm kicking around the idea of spending a month or 2 in Orlando this summer. Since I'm a Thousand Trails member, I can stay at the Orlando/Clermont park for 2 weeks and then have to be out for 2 weeks. With my TT membership, I can stay at Encore parks at a discount (I think $100/week).

I know there are other places in the Orlando area - namely state parks that are fairly decently priced (Moss, Bill Frederick and Lake Louisa). They're just not nearly as cheap as what I seem to be able to get into these Encore parks.

I've read the reviews on rvparkreviews - they appear to be OK. We're generally RV park people and are looking for a pool and playground at a minimum. We don't need a whole lot of formal activities.

Any first hand experiences that y'all would like to share?

  • Tropical Palms is also a Encore park (I believe)
  • If you're up for a change in scenery from Orlando, there is an Encore resort in Ormond Beach just a couple of exits north of Daytona that we really enjoyed. Even better if you're a Harley enthusiast as it is practically right beside the Destination Daytona Harley dealer.
  • Actually there are some big rigs at Sherwood but depends on the particular site you are assigned, if they still assign sites. Yes, you will definetly have more elbow room at Lake Magic.
  • Thanks Don. Given our "big rig" (42' fifth wheel + crew cab/long bed truck) - it sounds like Lake Magic might be the better option.
  • We have been to both places and they both are okay, but I think Lake Magic is a more modern park with larger campsites and a choice of two pools. I guess if there is a down side to that park is the fact it is not right in the attraction area, although it is only about 7 miles from the theme parks. Sherwood Forest is closer to everything, Camping World is almost across the street. Sherwood Forest is an older park with some tight sites and older park models wedged in between some of the RV sites. Both parks are clean with nice pools. Sherwood Forest has one pool in the park and it also has one across the street in their park model section that you are permitted to use also. I personally prefer the Orlando Resort but if you only have two weeks I think either of the two other parks are okay. I don't know how crowded or in demand they are but you could always check them both out when you are at the Orlando Resort and than make your reservation. Good luck and I hope you have a great visit.
