Our Next Trip: Wyoming Roaming

Wyoming has a lot to offer.

If you're in the southeast corner, you may want to consider a visit to the State Museum in Cheyenne near the capitol building. Lots of information on the history of Wyoming on display.

Head over to Laramie and there's the Territorial Prison that's also an interestng tour. And from Laramie, take the Snowy Range Road west through the funky little town of Centennial, and up and over the Snowy Range and the pass at the top. Some great USFS camping in that area. Up top at Snowy Range Pass is the Sugarloaf CG, which has the best vistas you could want. And some wonderful hikes and fishing in that area as well.

Then drop down over the west side to Saratoga and take in the hot springs there. It was devastated by a flood several years back, but they rebuilt and it's come back strong. Definitely worth the time to go there and relax.

Plan to have lunch at the Irma Hotel in Cody. Just the bar is worth the trip. IRMA Hotel
Also if you have time Hwy14 and then 14A out of Ranchchester,Wy is a wonderful scenic trip if you don't have a big rig. Stop and visit the Bighorn Medicine Wheel on your way to Cody. MEDICINEWHEEL

Take time to go through Thermopolis. There is a neat county museum, and the Hot Springs State Park with its huge springs, bath house, and buffalo herd.

There is also a really interesting Dinosaur Museum.

Go to Heart Mountain Internment Center at Ralston, a short drive NE of Cody. A sobering look at wartime paranoia. Very well done museum. Also the Brinton Art Museum near Story, between Buffalo and Sheridan,is definitely worth a stop.

x2,on the Snowy Range Pass trip. I think that is also known as hwy 130 from Centennial over to Saratoga Wy. Also the Bear Tooth Hwy outside the N.E. entrance of Yellowstone is well worth the time to explore.

Definitely had Snowy Range Pass on the list with Medicine Bow Peak. Will check into the campground recommendation too.

One of the reasons we planned this trip was also to hit the prime rib buffet at the Irma Hotel in Cody. Herself wants to stay the night in the hotel too but it might bust the budget.
