Outer Banks NC

does anyone have pix to share of the OBX area? is there a way to search in the campsites photos. do love looking at those though.
  • Google maps also give you view from above..what you will find is very little shade in the campgrounds if that is what you are looking for. Also this gives you a good understanding of campsite layout
  • Please check our blog below. We camped at Cape Hatteras KOA in July and took lots of pictures and made recommendations. If you dig back further we have photos and info from previous Cape Hatteras trips as well.
  • Here is a site that has photos of a lot of campgrounds, both public and private. You can search by type, where they are located, etc.

Here is the link to the Bells Island Campground in Currituck, which is north of OBX, but below Virginia Beach.

There are quite a few east coast campgrounds, but many, many western campgrounds.
  • You'll find a lot of trip reports in the TC section of the forum. TCers, by nature or what, generally seem to prefer the natural ambiance of government campgrounds and boondocking over the frills of some commercial parks. Must be something in our water. Anyway, you can view a trip report with photos of the OBX here, compliments of kohldad.

I use U.S. Campgrounds/info and RV Park Reviews to locate campgrounds and parks. They generally will lead me to a park's webpage that often contains some photos, albeit good or bad. From there, I can use Google Earth to refine my overall view of the campground/park's surrounding area, sometimes at the street level.
