Maps says the shortest route from Acushnet to Hatteras is 706 miles, and 12 hours drive time. And you plan to do it in one day? I think you are not going to like the trip much. Even if you have two drivers, that's a LONG haul. Counting driver's potty stops and fuel stops, you are looking at a minimum of 14 to 16 hours on the road.
My money says you will only attempt such a journey once, and I'll bet you break up the return trip over at least two days, and three would be better.
