Outer Banks

You won't find much like what you've described down around Rodanthe. No big board walk, and not too many small ones. :) From our experience you pretty much have to be prepared to amuse yourself. If you stay further north up around Nags Head and Kitty Hawk you'll find much more in the way of shopping and entertainment. But Rodanthe and points south are a little less developed...in a good way. There are some good eating places, but fewer restaurants.
