Overnight campground south of Richmond VA

Try Carolina Rv Resort, a bit below Richmond but a good overnight stop with pull thru sites.

I wouldn't worry about Richmond traffic, you can always take the I-295 bypass on the East side. DC traffic, yes avoid it.

Carolina Crossroads RV resort is unbeatable for overnighting. They have a $25.00 overnight rate and convenient pull through FHU sites. Close to 95 with easy access.
They are located in Roanoke Rapids, NC about an hour south of Richmond.

X3 on Carolina Crossroads. I actually stayed there 3 days on my way siouth last year to do some work on the coach. They even let you wash your rig. Easy off and on to I-95 just across the VA/NC border.

Thanks for all of the recommendations for the Carolina Crossroads RV resort, looks like a very nice spot, pull through sites that will handle our motor home and toad with full hookups. It is an extra hour but if we leave by 6 we can be there by 11 and that cuts Disney down to less than 10 hours the next day.

That Carolina Crossroads Sounds nice. We have also stayed at Pocahontas State Park just south of Richmond. They have some new paved sites with FHU and pull through as well. An option if you wanted to stop sooner. We stayed there in our 40' Phaeton with four slides. Had a heavy snow fall while we were there. Only us and a camp host. The ranger came around and said they were closing the park to new traffic and asked if we needed anything for overnight. Gave us the phone number of the park host if we did. Said, nope we were good. It was plowed out before we left the next day. It was absolutely gorgeous and so pristine with the quiet snowfall.

I assume you mean 6PM... I usually wait for 8PM to drive the Baltimore -> Fredicksburg stretch and stay at Pocohantas State Park - it's just off the interstate.

Not to be contrary but Just get on the road as soon as you get off work - a 4 o'clock start might put you in some slow traffic - but it will also likely put 75+ miles further down the road, which IMHO might be worth it on the long drive Friday.

As bad as the traffic is it will likely beat driving late and trying to hook up around midnight.

Also on Carolina Crossroads, there's a Walmart 1 exit north where you can stock up. Back road behind the shopping center goes right to the campground, no need to get back on I-95.
