Overnight in Alabama
I am looking for a place to stay overnight anywhere from Cullman to Birmingham in Alabama. We will be heading south from Indianapolis to Florida so a location close to I-65 would be most beneficial. Thanks!!

- Excellent feedback! Thank you. I like the idea of the free parking at Bass Pro however I doubt I would get a good nights sleep. Seems like there are lots of options that I did not know about!

Also the Hoover Met Stadium has also has campsites, and is a couple of miles off I-65. It's basically hookups in the stadium parking lot, but there is lots of dining and shopping in the area if you don't want to cook.
The entrance to Oak Mtn. State Park is truly only a couple of miles off i-65 but it is 6 miles of slow driving to the CG.
Hoover City park is just a parking lot but has great security and full HU. This also puts you south of Birmingham so you will avoid most of the morning rush.
Cullman CG is ok but, again, that leaves you traveling through Birmingham during the morning rush, unless it's a weekend day. Maybe the better choice for the return trip.- We overnighted at Rickwood Caverns State Park, I-65, Exit 284. It is about the area you are looking. They only have a dozen or so sites. There is a cave to tour and a pool. It was a nice place to stop. They have a gate that closes at a certain time so you need a code.
- we do not go through alabama on i65 without staying at gunter hill park, listed as montgomery. located 561 booth rd. a corps of engineers park which has a new section which has sewer hookups. reservations have to be 2 days in advance and only 2 walk in sites. i don't think there is a bad site, most are large sites.
- Last time we were down that way, we overnighted with a bunch of tractor trailers and one other RV at a rest area. It wasn't bad, but it was rather warm. It took the TT a couple of hours to cool off with the fan running.

- If your looking for a parking lot, there is a Bass Pro Shops right off of I-65 in Millbrook (same exit ependydad mentioned). They will let you stay overnight as well. If you need full hook ups, Oak Mountain is nice and will be a little quieter, it is a state park. The Hoover Met as mentioned earlier has a campground but it is basically in a parking lot. Both are out of your way by 20 minutes but the Oak Mountain option is cheaper. If I remember correctly, cheaper by about 15 bucks a night.
- It has been 25 years since I lived in Birmingham, so I can't say how it has changed, but Oak Mountain state park was the first place that came to mind for me
