Ozarks? AR or MO

Looking for a different route west from FL. Thinking about I-10 and then up and across MS into Arkansas. Looking for a couple of stops in the Ozarks in NW AR and SW MO. A few days worth maybe. We'll then cut up in KS where I found a couple of interesting locations to stop at, at least the write ups look interesting. The grasslands and Monument rocks with a couple others.

AR, MO and KS are all on our neglected states list. We've been to the Hot Springs area a couple times, mainly for the quartz rockhounding opportunities. So any suggestions welcomed.

The second son is a summer camp councilor this year so we'll be heading up to Grand Lake and then back into RMNP to see him.
  • The Corps of Engineers parks around Beaver Lake, AR are really pretty. Prairie Creek and Horseshoe Bend are both a few miles east of Rogers, AR, maybe 7 miles from I 49. Prairie Creek has water & elec at most sites, if you have a big rig, stay in sites 72-79. Those are 50 amp and easy to get into, the other sites that fit a big rig are tough to get into. Visit the Crystal Bridges Museum in Bentonville, the Wal Mart Museum. The parks are busy in the summer so make a reservation and go during the week.
  • There's parking lot casino camping at the three corners (Downstream Casino). I had to overnight there on a trip west and it was a good stopping point. Big Brutus is a huge electric shovel SW of Pittsburg KS. If you decide to stay off the interstate in KS you can find small town camping free and cheap. Monument Rocks was a cool little stop for me years ago. I don't consider myself a space buff but the museum in Hutchinson KS was very interesting. The Apollo 13 Command Module is on display.

Find 65 thru Ms up to Little Rock. Then 65 heads to Branson. Lots of great rv places in Branson. State park by the marina is great. All concrete big wide pads. Grass scape and close to water stuff and 7 miles to Branson. KOA nice too. Osage beach rv park at lake ozark the nicest close to everything. I've lived at lake oz and table rock. Table rock is my preference. If you want wild party atmosphere, go to lake oz. you want nice water, less nonsense, go table rock.
  • Have you been to Eureka Springs. If you head that way stop in Berryville-nice city park-and see the gun museum. Can't remember the name of it but it is near the town square.Surprisingly large for a small town. Berryville is pronounced 'Burraville" by the locals.

Go by Carthage and see the Precious Moments cathedral. If you do you will be close to Harry Truman's home town. Incredibly small bedroom.
  • That camp ground under Bull Shoals Dam looks pretty neat.

I am motorcycle rider and prefer Harrison/Bull SHoals/Jasper/Norfolk/Mtn View. I don't think you can go wrong.
