PA & MD questions

Hello All,

First regarding MD... Are there any campgrounds with hookups on Deep Creek Lake? We are considering spending a week out in western MD and would love to be on the lake.

Also, in PA we are familiar with lake wallenpaupack but not Raystown so much. Are there any campgrounds on the lake in Raystown?

We camp with myself, wife, and our twin 7yr daughters and 2 dogs.

Thanks all!

  • I've been to Raystown almost a dozen times. Always loved the area. Lake Raystown Resort has RV sites, and has waterfront sites. They also have a small Waterpark for the kids, and various other types of lodging. We used to rent a houseboat there every year and spend a week on the water. Raystown may be one of my favorite places in the world.

If you aren't bringing a boat, then make sure you rent one. Maybe just a pontoon boat for the day. You can't really enjoy the lake to its fullest if you're not ON the water, you won't regret it.
  • I have only been to Raystown twice, the last time in April 2006. I do not remember much except the COE campground was very nice with some of the sites right on the water. It is very difficult to reserve sites, especially those on the water. Reservations have to be made through the national reservation system. The prime sites as well as most other sites will already be reserved for the entire summer of 2015. Not sure, but I think they start taking reservations on January 1 each year. The lake is the largest man-made lake in PA; it is located in a beautiful area of PA.

  • Deep Creek state park has 30 amp electric only sites.
Double G rV park has full hook up sites but is not located directly on the lake.
Raystown has a great COE park as well as a great Private CG both located on the lake. But they only offer water and electric sites.
Heritage Cove RV park is located on the southern end of Raystown lake and has full hook up sites.
  • Swallow Falls State Park in Garrett County, Maryland says they have 3 full hook-up sites and 3 with water and electric. Not sure if they are the same 3 sites. I know we stayed there once and at least had water and electric. You might want to check that out. I don't know how fast they book up.
  • Be sure to check the maximum length of RV site, I have been to both Deep Creek and Raystown and there are size restrictions.

Haven't been to these but these are the only ones I've been able to locate in a quick Bing search for Deep Creek Lake, MD.
