OR Coast is one of our favorite places; God wiling, we will be back next summer/fall for 5 weeks. Already have reservations at many places.
BTW - WA coast is not really coast for most part.
Not really sure what Lauren that "WA coast is not really coast for most part." Whereas the 101 follows the Oregon coast, it does not do so in Washington. Much/most of it goes inland along the Pacific. That being said, the Washington coast is gorgeous, but you have to take SR's to get there. WA103 to the Long Beach Peninsula, WA105 to Grayland/Westport, WA109 to Ocean Shores/Copalis Beach/Pacific Beach. All these are off of 101. Take the time to do so. Long Beach Peninsula is historic in that this is the area L&C first sighted the Pacific, and Clark explored north into the Long Beach Peninsula...my favorite beach on the Washington coast...25 miles of wide, flat, beautiful ocean beach.
Suggestion: before travelling out here read "Undaunted Courage" by Stephen Ambrose, a fascinating narrative of L&C's Corp of Discovery expedition. Will give you a great background into the historic areas you will be crossing/visiting in Montana, Idaho, Washington, and Oregon.
