Pie Town, NM

I'm scrolling through Google Maps looking for interesting things to see and do in New Mexico next month, and I came across Pie Town. The name intrigues me, but it doesn't look like there is any "there" there.

Have any of you experienced Pie Town for yourselves?

It's a little town out on US Route 60 (parallel and to the south of Route 66). Yes, there's a couple of restaurants there. Yes, pies are the specialty. Yes, there's an RV park there.

Not far from Datil, NM, where there's a decent public campground.

Not that far from the VLA, always worth a visit!

Yep been there done that. Nice little RV park with full hook ups.
  • I'm looking at the Visitors website for the VLA and it looks like they only have tours on the first and third Saturdays of the month. What happens if you visit one of the other 26-29 days of the month? Do you just park in the lot and watch Contact on your own BluRay player in your coach? (For the record, I could watch that movie anytime anywhere, but I'm not certain I need to drive to the sticks to watch it.
  • Speaking of interesting attractions off the beaten path in NM, have any of you ever visited the Bistie Badlands?

The entire state has too many too list, from the site of Victorio Vs Buffalo soldiers to the site of the first atomic blast... by the way 3 soldiers won medals of honor one of them is buried in the Hillsboro NM cemetery. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victorio%27s_War
