Run down and dirty? No. Brightly lit 24/7 tourist trap lined with stores selling made-in-China glassware with "Smokey Mountain National Park" printed on it? Yes.
Several years ago, I flew a Cessna down from Cincinnati to Sevierville Airport to visit my former flight instructor. He told me to navigate to Knoxville, look to the SE and follow the lights of Pigeon Forge (he called it Pigeon Fleece) and it would take me right over the end of the runway. It worked.
