Pigeon Forge, Run down and dirty?

Its not my intention to offend anyone...I have never been to Pigeon Forge, TN. Wife and I were interested in vacationing in the area but after reading several websites the impression that I'm left with is the town and outlying areas are distressed and dirty. Any recent first hand experience would be appreciated!

    Over the last 50 plus years I have visited PF numerous times and other than the sometimes hectic traffic, I find it a pleasant town.
    If you look hard, I guess you might find something "distressed and dirty". Just like any place else.
    Keep in mind, PF and G'burg are tourist towns and try to appeal to those wishing to spend their dollars.
