Pigion Forge TN

Thinking about going to Pigion Forge TN this August. Looking at campgrounds for my Class C. I was looking at Camp Rivers Landing for about a week. Any suggestions or other places to stay? Suggestions on the area??thanks

  • For other ideas do a Google search for `Pigeon Forge tourism' or just `Dolly'.
  • Camp River Landing has changed their business model from a laid back CG to a family/kid oriented CG. Nothing wrong with that just not what we are looking for in relaxation. The families staying there have not been taught to respect other campers. We had stayed there for years but due to these changes have since gone elsewhere. If you love others in you space you with love it there.
  • If you are wanting to be right in Pigeon Forge, stay at Pine Mountain RV Park. You can't beat it for the close vicinity, but off the parkway, so the sound is not quite as loud. The shuttle runs to most campgrounds, but this one is about a mile to Dollywood, 2 blocks to the Old Mill and is easily walking distance to the parkway and restaurants. Others are further away or RIGHT ON the parkway and the sound, up until LATE in the night, is awful.

If you are wanting to get out of the main drag, Anchor Down is great, but extremely pricey. The Douglas Headwater Campground is just across the lake from Anchor Down, has water/electric and a dump, along with decent bath houses. I think their cost is $30/night compared to $65+ at AD.

There are many, many campgrounds - Riverside, Rivers Edge, Clabough's, Misty Meadow, Jellystone, Adventure Bound, Twin Creek and many more. We have stayed at most of them, but Pine Mtn is our favorite IN Pigeon Forge.
  • What are you looking for in a campground? Close to the action on the 'strip'? Full hookups and swimming pool? Price?. There are so many CG's that run the gamut of services and convenience to attractions you need to decide what things you want in a campground and let us know so we can be specific for you. I live in the area and am familiar with most places and they all offer the basics but some are more high end.

I will reccomend a few for you. For W/E hookup and dumpstation available the TVA headwaters and tailwaters campgrounds are good. They are a few miles away from the attractions and main drag. Peaceful and right on Douglas lake and the river. Duvall in the Smokies is closer and a small quaint CG only minutes up the road from Dollywood and the "forge'. Some sites back up to a small stream. High end is The Ridge, a new CG in the same area as Duvall but a bit closer to Dollywood. There are many others to choose from too but here are a few to look at for you.
  • Another vote for Pine Mountain RV Park, nice campground.
  • Loved the Pine Mountain RV Park - was off the highway and the free shuttle stopped at the campground
  • Pigeon Forge is a pretty cheesy tourist trap area. Are you specifically wanting to stay there, or just that general area?

We've stayed at Anchor Down in Dandridge, about 20 minutes up the road. It was a gorgeous RV Resort. There are a couple campgrounds near there that looked nice, specifically the Tailwaters Campground just below the dam on Douglas Lake.

If you want to be closer to Gatlinburg, which is much more beautiful an area (but still a fun tourist trap), there are plenty of campgrounds that way as well.
