- FunnyCamperExplorer IIONE TIME we did this cg, my recommendation is DO NOT BE NEAR A BATHHOUSE.
SEWER SMELL was horrible.
Do OFF times. pool/lazy river and other public areas SO PACKED it was just miserable use of facilities.
never again for this old gal :) - mockybirdExplorerWe love PL and MB in particular.
Wife always has me going to Broadway at the Beach but I can bear it once or twice a trip down.
BUT...........I was " brought up " on the smells and noise and crowds of downtown MB.
And it's no where as crowded as it used to be.
Also do not be in a hurry to drive anywhere in this area. It just will not work for you.
Terryallen might be in front of you and that will slow things down too. - byrdr1ExplorerTerryallen,
did you see the new walmart super sized mini mart just across the street almost from Pirate land, Lakewood and Ocean Lakes?
Neighborhood walmart I think is the name. NOT the super stores in 17 and 544 but a smaller one like a big mini mart..
Just wondering? It opened while we were at OLCG in May.
thanks
randy - jaycocamprsExplorerWe also just got back from PL. We were in site #685, it up in the north end of the campground. It's quieter up on that end than down were Dodge Guy was. And we were well off the front road also. But there is something for everyone there, if you don’t have fun it’s your fault.

And look at the same "stuff" we saw at Bare Foot Landing two days before. - dodge_guyExplorer II

Yes, I should`ve stated that I was pretty much in the middle of the ocean front sites. so that is where all the action is. at the ends is much calmer, and the farther back you go (towards the front) it is much more relaxed.
On Broadway at the Beach, yes it is a mall and much cleaner and more appealing to families. I was very disappointed on the Downtown area. I was expecting a boardwalk like I remember walking on as a kid in New Jersey. all we got was a 3 foot wide deck to walk on between hotels on the beach! and then you have all the rejects working their little sidewalk shops! let alone the questionable people walking around!
We have the Wisconsin Dells which is similar to MB. I thought that was touristy. No where near as bad as MB and way cleaner too! Don`t get me wrong we enjoyed MB, but we felt much better about staying out on the 17 bypass. it just felt like a safer area to be in. and you don`t need to pay to park either! - mockybirdExplorerHey Dodgeguy, what you saw was the NEW boardwalk. It used to be just like you described from NJ.
But I bet the one in NJ doesn't look like that now either.
Some think the new ways are better, but you can't beat those old past memories can you ?
I will say that I have never felt unsafe anywhere at MB - TerryallanExplorer II

Yep, it's open and was super crowded. From Pirateland. Food Lion is still easier to get to in afternoon, and evening. The kiids went to the new WalMart. That's how we know it was crowded. There is no way it can't make money where they put it. - TerryallanExplorer II

I resemble that remark. I prolly won't be in front. We hardly ever leave the CG. It's just too crazy out there. - TerryallanExplorer II

Yeah. What made Myrtle Beach is gone. Gone are the days of walking from ocean front hot dog stand to the "Wild Mouse" and dancing (Shaggin)at the Pavilion. We don't go downtown MB any more. The attraction is gone. In fact if there was a Ocean Front CG any where as close, we would go there instead. But it's a lot farther to the OBX, and there are none inbetween. - mockybirdExplorerMOST times when we go to a MB campground, we never leave except for maybe 1 night to eat seafood out somewhere and maybe go to Broadway at the beach. Sometimes we eat at one of the many places there.
