Planning a trip to Florida

Has anyone stayed at Ellenton Gardens Rv Resort? Campground reviews has nothing on it. Going to visit friends in St Pete but don't want to be to close. Any decent campgrounds around St Pete that you would recomend?
  • Best place to stay is Fort Desoto State Park but you will need to keep calling to try and get in because they book 6 months in advance and you may catch a cancellation. A few of the commercial parks that I have checked out in the area were all close quarters and not suited for my fiver. Looks to me like a Sun Resort, which could be anything as they are buying up anything they can in Florida. If you can get in then I would take it because it is way late in the winter season to find a good spot. Good Luck.
  • While Desoto is a nice park, I wont go back in my DP. Just too many overhanging trees and tight corners.

    Maybe in a travel trailer.

When we stay to visit family, we stay in Madeira Beach KOA. Older park, gated, near hundreds of restaurants and shopping.

Its also on a major bike path if you ride bikes.
  • Just across the river is Timberlane. We stayed there last year and enjoyed it. The new club house and pool are done and the back sites are going in. Nice people running the place. Close to I-75.

From Google Maps, Ellenton looks like mostly park models.
  • Stayed at Ellenton Gardens for the last 3 years. Its right off I75, has a pool and a lake in the middle where you can watch the RC sailboat races every Sunday. Its a very nice place.
  • I agree that best place to stay is Fort Desoto State Park. I have been there when I visited Florida.
