Maybe a day and a half drive from central Texas but Lake City, Colorado is the summer home of a lot of Texans. Nestled in the mountains with lakes, golf courses, off roading, fishing, hiking, etc, etc.
Lake CIty RV Parks
I camped in my RV a couple of years in Ouray, Co on the other side of the mountains and found Lake City by accident while doing some off roading in my Jeep. Swore the next time I go back to Colorado it will be to Lake City, although Ouray was really nice too.
