Propane Rates in Florida

I just bought a home in Florida to have a base for winter. Ridiculously low foreclosed prices of homes versus CG fees in Florida, this ole Full Timer jumped on buying one to park my MH. So I guess I'm back to being called a Snowbird? I dunno just know I will save a lot of money this winter.

That said. I'm from Wisconsin and going propane in that state is a no brainer cause it IS far cheaper than electric.

What is with Florida propane rates? I called the existing propane company for the tank in my yard and he quoted a whopping 4.68 a gallon!? It was only 1.68 in Wisconsin.

1. Can each state charge what ever they want for propane? :?

2. If you live in Florida is it cheaper to have an electric hot water heater or propane?
I just can't figure out the whole kilowatt versus gas math problem!

Thanks for any help you can offer.

  • This site will give you the prices of recent purchases of propane by county. As you can see they are all over the place so shop around. As far as whether to use propane or electric for your water heater, that will depend on what is installed in your home. 99% of Florida homes have electric water heaters. Even if it were less expensive to use gas, it may not make sense to pay for replacing the water heater if yours has an electric one. If you use electric, put a 220V timer on it so that is only on a few hours a day when you need it.
  • Not only every state can charge but in Florida, every COMPANY can set it's on rates.

    Called capitalism.

Shop around, that sounds very high.
  • #1. Yes, companies are allowed to charge what they want. We are not totally gov't controlled yet!

Call around, get other quotes. That seems really high, even for FL.
