Quartzite Boondocking

we're at Ogilby, and I miss Quartzsite! People around here don't have any qualms about moving right up next to ya :R ya have ACRES of land, and ya park right next to me. My experience with Quartzsite has been unless you're with a group, and someone drives in and sees you parked, they go a good distance away, and don't camp right in your face. Of course, that doesn't apply in Hi Jolly :B

Another term for coyotes? I've had them come into camp in broad daylight, and go nose to nose with my boxers before. I know what they are up to, but thanks for the heads-up.

Are coyotes bad like that all around Arizona? I haven't had my dogs with me either time I visited my Camping place Northwest of flagstaff. But I can only imagine that they would be much worse where my property is because there is a lot of trees and underbrush, Conifer's , Juniper's, Mountains, Canyons, lots of places for a Coyote to hide, hunt, and den up. I guess their could even be some big cats for all I know in that region. All I saw though were wild cattle, Elk, and all kinds of birds. I have a lot of Coyotes in Oklahoma but its different here, I already broke these from the habit, and sent some to the other side. If anyone has experience with the area I am referring to on Highway 180 North of Flag I would love to hear about it. PM me if you want. Thanks folks.

We've been on the road for a few days, now I'm full on boondocking near Quartzite. We heard off of Paloma road had good internet so we went there.

Speaking of which, I just got my first mobile internet connection. I got some bum deal from Verizon after the people at ComCast said they no longer offer that service. At first the girl said they had one through my cell phone for 20 bucks a month, no contract. Then, after I said I'd take it, 'Oh, I'm sorry, it's 50 a month' and 'they must have raised it since the last time I sold one'. What a rip off.



At least I'm on line, and I can stop it when I'm not RV'ing. And it's surprisingly fast.

I hate the laptop keyboard, though.

How do you do that? Can you start it up again for the next RV trip and then begin using data you haven't used up from the last time you paid for data?

We have a Verizon Jetpack and it works great. At most places around Quartzsite last week we were on the Internet through Verizon at very fast 4G speeds with our Jetpack. It automatically defaults down to 3G if the 4G signal is too weak and automatically defaults down to 1X if the 3G signal is too weak - very nice technology on Verizon's part. It runs on a built-in battery that lasts around 8-10 hours, can be recharged through a USB port from a 12 volt receptacle or a computer, can be conveniently carried in your pocket, and can have up to 10 devices connected to the Internet through it at the same time. We have so far used it for an iPad and a laptop Internet connection at the same time.

HOWEVER, 3 giga-bytes of data for it costs $60 ... and after 30 days if you have not used up the 3 GB, then sorry, you lose what data you didn't use of the 3 GB and must pay $60 again for a new allocation of 3 giga-bytes. If you use the 3 GB of of data in less than 30 days and want to keep going, you pay $60 again to get another allocation block of 3 giga-bytes of data. Between RV trips that are more than 30 days apart you of course you don't use the Jetpack, lose what data you didn't use up of the last 3 GB block of data you bought for the last RV trip(s), and don't pay anything to Verizon when not on an RV trip.

The Jetpack is wonderful technology so you don't need data plans to cover separate devices and you can let it sit idle with no charges between RV trips - but boy does this come at an expensive cost for data for RV trips ... too expensive for streaming Netflix movies in the evenings when camping!

Peddle your bike or tow vehicle down to Mickey D's in town for wifi internet access and Senior Citizen discount $.69 a cup coffee in the morning, or evening. That's what the Old Geezers do.

I'm the wrong person to be asking about this stuff, as I'm totally new at roving internet connections. I only know what I related in my post; they bumped the price from 20 to 50 a month, and it connects through my older Android phone.

A weird thing happened, though. First thing I did was run an online speed test, and it clocked higher than my DSL at home! Last thing I expected.

So, what the heck, I decided to upgrade a game to see if it would work. I started out, and it was running like a bat out of hell, patching stuff. Then, it stopped dead; no slow down, no stutters, just bang, no connect. I had to reset everything to get any connection at all.

Long story short, a subsequent speed test showed it running a little slower, but not much, but the upgrades to the game had slowed to a crawl. days to complete crawl, after it was very fast.

I'm sure 'data' you are talking about has something to do with this. I'm going to have to do more research.

I hear ya, and I've seen the pictures, however, there are still an amazing amount of people around. The big swap-meet area was crowded enough for me. The parking was plenty packed. It must have been a nightmare during the RV show.
