We leave from Southern Ontario and generally pick an approx. date that suits any other plans. We check the weather carefully from here to Kentucky and if no storms are on the horizon we start out. Our second night is usually at Cave City, Ky and many years we have been able to de-winterize there. You just have to be flexible and be able to deal with conditions. Also must get your priorities straight. If staying home for Christmas is important to you, then do it and leave between Christmas and New Years.
