Ravens at Grand Canyon

They are fairly common at Bryce. Not so much at Capital Reef. I don't remember about Zion.

Some people actually ooh and ahh over such things BUT - DO NOT FEED THEM! or any other wildlife!!

We were at the Grand Canyon a month ago and the ravens keep a close eye on Everything that goes on in the canyon area including the Colorado river. They are just trying to make a living and are smart and aggressive enough to have figured it out that people= easy food.
Some people actually feed them but most just leave food items unattended so the birds who fly over the area constantly, know exactly when there is opportunity for winged robbery.
When I dropped my pack at Tanner beach and went for a walk for ten minutes, my top pouch that had a closed zipper with a cord on it had been opened and a plastic zip lock with some small electronics was on the ground with chew holes in it. I did not remember leaving the zipper open and though initially that a furry ground animal had pulled the bag out but when it happen a second time after leaving the pack hung in a tree after a days walk to the Little Colorado, I knew that the local raven who was always present, was the thief.
He owned that area. As someone has already said, they are the raccoons of the sky.

We drove through the campground when we were at the south rim. The ravens were at work in one campsite. Huge mess. They reminded us of raccoons. Just a crafty. Don't leave anything out.

We were in trailer village in March. And yes, the ravens are a problem. A couple sat on a nearby picnic table watching me dump the tanks. They were waiting for me to just walk away for a moment and then they would pounce. They are huge birds.

Are the Ravens just a problem at Grand Canyon? What about the other NP in the area?

We stayed at the S.Rim about 10 years ago and no problems then. We will be in the area this summer and are grateful to learn of the problem beforehand.

When we visited the Anhinga Trail Visitor Center this past January, in the Everglades, the Center provided car covers for those who wanted them to prevent damage from vultures.

You didn't hear the music to the "Twlight Zone" in the background did you ? ;)

I put a heavy tarp over my sewer hose at Grand Canyon -- the ravens landed on it but did not penetrate it. But it is probably wiser to just store your hose until you need it and then put it away again.
