Cataloochee is my favorite area in GSMNP. Last time there was 2018 in our Wrangler. We came in from the south side. Only saw tents, pop ups and class B in the CG. The problem I see is that the roads are narrow and have places that would be difficult when meeting on coming traffic. Especially the downhill section when entering the park which was gravel the last time we were there. I know that I could get our 26 ft class c back there as long as I didn't meet anybody. I would recommend staying at Smokemont and taking the Jeep to the valley. September is a great time to see the elk. Clydes in Waynesville is a good place to eat.
