This weekend, I put the final touches on my solar system We have a 36' 5er with all the accessories. I installed two 150 watt Renogy panels, Trimetric TM2030 monitor & SC2030 solar charger, 1000watt Xantrex inverter and 2 240AH 6volt crown batteries. The system powers all 12 volt items including LP frig & furnace plus the inverter with TV, dish and wifi. Our typical TV use is 3 to 4 hours. After two nights of normal use, batteries are about 60% of capacity in the morning when solar starts charging system. The days have been sunny.
Like others, I plan to use a generator to bulk charge for 1 to 2 hours every morning and then an hour in the evening while preparing dinner.
The question is will it pay for itself. I don't know. What I hope is it will allow me to stay off grid without hours of generator operation. If it does, then it is worth every penny.
